The Gran Sasso experimenters apply their own bound to Orch OR: 'highly implausible'
- what the source states
- The abstract states that the authors analyze Orch OR against the spontaneous-radiation bounds from the Gran Sasso measurements and conclude that Orch OR, "when based on the simplest version of gravity-related dynamical collapse, is highly implausible in all the cases analyzed."
- what we infer
- Weighty because of who wrote it: the experimenters themselves, plus Diósi, applying their own result to the theory rather than leaving the inference to others — the people best placed to know what their bound excludes. The conditional in their own sentence carries the whole argument, though, and they wrote it deliberately: "when based on the simplest version." What is excluded is a class of implementations, and the theory's ability to survive by not being one of them is both a legitimate defense and a symptom of underspecification.
- limitations
- Conclusion is explicitly conditional on 'the simplest version of gravity-related dynamical collapse'.
- An analysis paper applying an existing bound rather than a new measurement.
- Contested by McQueen 2023 on the question of whether Penrose OR is committed to the version tested.
