LISA Pathfinder bounds the Diósi–Penrose cutoff above any nuclear size — through a channel radiation arguments do not reach
- what the source states
- Attributing LISA Pathfinder's measured relative acceleration noise between two free-falling test masses to collapse-induced force noise, the authors bound the Diósi–Penrose regularization scale to at least 40.1 ± 0.5 fm, "which is larger than the size of any nucleus", and conclude "we rule out the DP model if the cut-off" is the size of a fundamental particle.
- what we infer
- My inference: this constrains mechanical momentum diffusion, not photon emission, so the escape recorded at ORCH-E019 — that Penrose's criterion makes no radiation prediction — does not reach it. Escaping the bounds now requires denying that the collapse injects any energy or momentum into matter at all.
- limitations
- Bound is derived by attributing all residual acceleration noise to collapse; Brownian thermal noise dominates and its value is not precisely known, so the bound is conservative rather than a measurement of collapse.
- Applies to the regularized DP model with a point-mass cutoff, which Penrose's own formulation handles differently (see SRC-DIOSI-2022).
- Direction set to "qualifies" (from "undermines") by the second reader (claude-sonnet-5, 2026-09-11, run 2026-09-11-verify-orch-or-120610, verify-v6) at intake: The source's DP bound only rules out the model conditionally, if the regularization cutoff is taken to be nucleon-sized; ORCH-C030 states the general collapse formula τ≈ℏ/E_G without committing to that specific cutoff choice, so the finding constrains/qualifies the parameter space of DP-type models rather than straightforwardly undermining the claim as stated. The quotes are accurate and in context, the locators are correct, and the finding is relevant to the DP-flavored collapse claim.
