Meissner, Nurowski & Ruszczycki 2013: ring-type structures at 99.7%
- what the source states
- "We compare the actual WMAP maps with artificial, purely statistical maps of the same harmonic content to argue that there are, with confidence level 99.7%, ring-type structures in the observed cosmic microwave background."
- what we infer
- A different statistic from a different (Warsaw) group reporting a significant ring effect in a Royal Society venue. Weight is limited by the group's proximity to the program — Meissner and Nurowski later co-author the Hawking-points paper with Penrose — and by the same a-posteriori statistic concern that attaches to the whole exchange.
- limitations
- Proponent-adjacent group; not an independent replication in the sense of Wehus & Eriksen or Hajian.
- 'Maps of the same harmonic content' sidesteps rather than settles the ensemble dispute: the comparison preserves the power spectrum but the statistic and threshold were chosen post hoc.
