Nielsen et al. 2019: after subtracting the maximum-likelihood waveform, no significant Hanford–Livingston residual correlation at GW150914 — part 1
- what the source states
- Using the Pearson cross-correlation statistic of Liu and Jackson and Creswell et al., after subtracting the maximum likelihood waveform "there are no statistically significant correlations between the residuals" of the Hanford and Livingston detectors at the time of GW150914.
- what we infer
- Removes the empirical premise of CCC-C505 on this analysis: the correlation Penrose sought to explain is attributed to an imperfect template, not to the noise. It says nothing about erebons directly; diagnosticity toward CCC runs only through the premise.
- limitations
- Authors are LIGO-affiliated; the test relies on a GR waveform to construct residuals, which Ulhoa et al. 2026 (CCC-E077) argue is circular for this purpose.
- Single event (GW150914) and 512 s of data.
