The proposed connection

What makes it a question?

The combination of a human-like body and bird head appears on opposite sides of the world. Whether finer structure also matches is the useful question.

The project’s illustrated archive assembles this comparison; an original external proposer of the exact pictured pairing has not been traced.

Look closely

What appears to correspond

  • Bird heads combine with human-like bodies in each group.
Keep in the frame

What differs or remains uncertain

  • The Assyrian figure is winged, dressed and upright, with a ritual bucket.
  • Rapanui examples often bend their limbs and vary in their associated forms.
